No fewer than four PhD and 200 Master's degree holders applied in the ongoing recruitment of 774,000 special public works program of the federal government across the 774 Nigerian local governments.
This was disclosed by the Ogun state chairman of special public works Gbenga Obadara while fielding questions from journalists.
The chairman said his committee had started distribution of the forms about a month back in the state adding that four PhD and 200 master’s degree holders are among applicants in the state.
"Unemployment is extremely on the high rise. People with master’s degrees and even PhD degrees are applying for N20,000 jobs. That is the problem. It cannot cover everybody. We cannot blame the federal government,” he said.
"Almost 20,000 persons from 20 local government areas in the state obtained the forms," he highlighted.
The special public works programme in which 1,000 Nigerians from each of the 774 local governments areas in the country will be recruited for a six months unskilled labour with a stipend N20,000 monthly renumeration, coordinated by the federal ministry of labour and employment was lounched in July with the aims to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians due to Covid-19.
Recently, The Labour Force Statistics report shows that, 21.76 million Nigerians are currently unemployed.
