From Tukur Muntari, Kano
A Coalition of Youth under the aegis of Kano North Senatorial Youths for Good Governance, has described a petition to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Kano State Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo as a deliberate political calculation to tarnish the good image of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and that of President Muhammadu Buhari.
This is because of the commitment and loyalty of the Commissioner in ensuring the victory of the APC at both local, state as well as the Federal Governments level since 2015.
A statement signed by the Coalition's Chairman, Wada Lawan Fulatan and issued to newsmen in Kano on Monday, said Sule Garo who is known as ‘Commander’ for his emancipation of women and youths, is a grassroot politician who built his political career on loyalty, accountability, honesty and commitment to the party victory despite all odds
According to the group, the Commissioner is paying the price for standing on the side of truth and refusal to compromise his hard earned political reputation which some desperate politicians within Kano APC in collaboration with the opposition party have sworn to drag to the mud to achieve their selfish political interest in the state, come 2023.
"We are aware of the move by the Kano state APC Abuja based politicians who bent at using political intrigues to sabotage the current efforts of Governor Ganduje in building a greater Kano through infrastructural development and instituting a decent political climate which eluded the state for a long time," the group said.
It said in addition, such selfish politicians in collaboration with the opposition were also targeting President Muhammadu Buhari, considering the fact that Kano State is the President''s political base, hence the decision to start the execution of their hidden agenda from Kano.
The statement, however noted that this is not the first time such selfish Abuja based politicians were making desperste move to sabotage Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
"Their first time attempt was the immediate past chairman of Municipal Local Government Council and present Commissioner for Special Duties, Muntari Ishaq who was later cleared by the EFCC from all the alleged financial misappropriation levelled against him. Why are Governor Ganduje's commissioners the target for these desperate politicians," the group queried.
The group recalled with pride the contributions Sule Garo gave in securing victory for both Governor Ganduje and President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 and 2019 general elections when he was the APC Campaign Coordinator in Kano.
While the Coalition expressed its total support for President Muhammadu Buhari's fight against corruption which Governor Ganduje also emulated by empowering the Kano State Anti-graft Agency to investigate corruption charges, said it will not fold its arms to see a reputable, committed, loyal and the face of hope for women and youths like Sule Garo become a victim of desperate politicians.
“The Commissioner was never found wanting in resources management as chairman of Kabo local government, Kano state ALGON chairman and subsequent positions held, then why now? the group queried.
The group, therefore, called on Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and APC elders in the state to intervene so as to save women and youths of Kano North from the intrigues of desperate politicians who do not contribute anything for the development of their area and the state at large.
"As a non partisan organisation, we are calling on Governor Ganduje and APC elders to intervene to save the women and youths of Kano North from the intrigues of such desperate politicians who do not contribute to the development of their area and the state at large, but after promoting their 2023 political ambition,” the group said.
They, however, warned that failure to broker peace, the group would have no option than to mobilise its members to embark on peaceful protest against such desperate politicians.
“Should peaceful resolution fails, we would have no option than to make public the names of such desperate politicians who are bent on sabotaging the efforts of Governor Ganduje and deprived the people of the state the dividend of democracy being enjoyed as a result of the purposeful leadership of Ganduje and President Buhari,” the group added.
