The Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has procured modern power bikes to check and ensure strict compliance with the road use guideline in the state inline with the best international traffic system.
Kano state Goverrnor, Dr Abdullah Umar Ganduje speaking shortly after inaugurating the bikes held Sunday at Government House, Kano, said the modem bikes would enable KAROTA personnel to move quickly to monitor traffic, trace defaulters and going around the city to fish out those smuggling illicit and substandard goods into the state.
The Goverrnor charged guards of the Agency to redouble efforts either in controlling traffic and pursuing those who are breaking traffic rules or those that are suspected to be carrying forbidden items or forbidden arms and ammunitions.
He then appreciated the initiative of the leadership of the Agency for the forsight and emphasized that, the introduced bikes would certainly assist in having a good transportation system within Kano metropolitan and at the same time in controlling the security system in the state.
Earlier in his address, The Managing Director, Kano State Road Traffic Agency, Baffa Babba Dan'agundi stated that, The Agency purchased the 25 number power bikes with the money saved through delisting ghost workers and those that are not going to work on the playlist.
"Here are the power bikes that you graciously approved for us to buy with the saved money, Your Excellency," The KAROTA Boss told Goverrnor Ganduje, while presenting the bikes.
He also said, the power bikes would soon be put into proper use as "Sometime we see alot of things happening on the road, we see criminals carrying criminals items on their trucks, cars but there are no vehicle to quickly trace them to where they're going and that's how they escaped, so with this modern power bikes, we'll arrest more criminals," he further explained.
However, The KAROTA Boss who is also supervising the activities of the State Consumer Protection Council, briefed the governor that, recently, the Council have identified and seized a very big Warehouse along Ungoggo area, fully stocked and selling expired spaghetti, wheat flour and other foodstuffs.
