NDLEA Arrests 363, Secures 30 Convictions, Counsels155 In Jigawa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Jigawa state office says it has arrests no fewer than 363 suspects in connection to drug abuse and trafficking from July last year to June, 2021.
This was stated by the state Commander of the Agency Mrs Maryam Gambo while briefing newsmen on commemoration of this year's World Drug Day in the state.
The Commander, during the breifing held Friday as the slated day for the commemoration (26th/June) by the United Nations, coincided with the Local government council elections in the state said that, the command has confiscated a total of 344.99kgs of hard drugs comprising cannabis sativa and other illicit substances in the year under review.
She added that, out the 363 suspects arrested, 20 we're females.
On prosecution, Mrs Maryam Gambo explained that, the command during the reviewing time, filed 108 cases before the Federal High Court Dutse and secured 30 convictions ranging from 3 to 20 year's imprisonment while the remaining 78 are still going.
During the same period, The Commander said, 155 persons were counseled by the Drug Demand Reduction Unit of the Command while 14 persons were rehabilitated and reintegrated back to the society.
However, Mrs Gambo urged members of the public to do their part and combat misinformation by sharing the evidence based facts on drug abuse.
"This has become necessary in order to straighten action and cooperation in achieving the goal of a world free of drug abuse," She highlighted.
