Kano state governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has endorsed the decision of APC stakeholders to go for consensus during the fourth coming Congress of the party which would be conducted on the 31st of July, this year across the country.
The development has come when the governor personally chaired a crucial stakeholdes meeting as part of the preparation toward the up coming ward Congress of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
The stakeholders meeting was held Sunday at the Africa House, Government House, Kano, in the presence of members of the National and State Assemblies, party leaders at state and local governments, Commissioners, Elders, former Deputy Governors, Caucus and the 44 Local Government Chairmen in the state.
Three Senators from Kano, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano Central), Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya (Kano South), Barau Jibrin (Kano North) who are all members of the ruling party (APC) as well as the two ministers from Kano were not sighted as their apologies was later announced during the meeting.
Governor Ganduje while speak at the event, said, "I am delighted to see that you have all decided that the forthcoming Ward Congress, slated for Saturday, 31st July, be conducted under consensus arrangement. This decision of yours, will surely strengthen the process and make our party to be more peaceful."
Adding that, "We thank you for taking this decision. We were happy with the result we saw last time during our local governments election, when we followed your advice, the stakeholders.
According to him, the consensus arrangement, embraced during the last local government election, was what saved the party from plunging into crisis.
"We don't want crisis in our party," he emphasised, adding that, "that is why we are always determined to accept decision of our stakeholders at whatever level in the state."
"As we are going for confirmation of our consensus, during the Ward Congress, we must make sure that, those to emerge as leaders, are loyal party members, who are committed and determined in the spirit of our party. As we are facing general elections." He urged.
He warned further that, "All confirmation of our consensus must be held at party offices at Ward levels. Not in any other person's residence. Party process and procedures must be respected."
"We are sending monitors and observers to come and see how the process will be conducted. Members of the Press are free to go and see. So also members of civil society groups. They can all go and see democracy in action," he concluded.
Newskeeper reported that, those who spoke at the meeting also vioced out their support on the consensus arrangement for the upcoming ward congress and other congresses slated to take place on Sunday, the 31st of July, 2021.
