In what appears to be a move toward finding a lasting solution to improve the current pension scheme of the Kano state government, The State pension Board has paid a study visit to it's neighboring Jigawa state to take a leaf.
This was stated by the Permanent Member 1, Kano State Pension Fund Trustees, Alhaji Maifada Bello Kibiya, In Dutse, Thursday, when he led a delegation from the State to the Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board.
The Permanent Member 1, who described that, "Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme is the best Pension Scheme in the Country", Said that, Kano State intended to emulate the model being used by the Jigawa State Government
In a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Office of the Head of the Civil Service, Jigawa state, Ismaila Dutse, leader of the delegation said, "Kano State Pension Fund Trustees is making efforts towards engaging the Services of Pension Fund Administrators and that is why the team is in Jigawa to learn from the positive Pension policy of Jigawa State."
According to the statement, Mr Kibiya who noted that most of Pension problems are squarely related to law, explained that, "Kano State Government will amend its Pension Law to enhance the State Pension Administration.
Responding, the Executive Secretary, Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme, Honorable Hashim Ahmad Fagam said, the Jigawa State Contributory Pension Scheme was initiated in 2003.
The Executive Secretary explained that, since it's inception, the scheme is going side-by-side with the public service Pension system being paid directly from Government revenues.
Under the arrangement, “Civil Servants in the State contribute 8 per cent of their monthly basic salary, while the State and Local Governments contributes 17 per cent," he further highlighted.
"Jigawa State is ready to support any State with any recipes that will help in improving their Pension Scheme," The Executive Secretary assured.
Newskeeper reporter in Dutse, reports that, during the visit which was expected to last for a couple of days, the delegation would adequately be briefed about the activities of the scheme by the Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Salary and Pension Administration, Lawan Muhammad Bello, Directors of the Board and some Directors from the Directorate of Salary and Pension Administration among others.
