Jigawa State government said in the last six years of Governor Badaru led administration it has spent about two billion naira in the provision of potable water in the state.
The State Commissioner of Water Resources stated this while breifing newsmen during the maiden edition of the Biweekly Media Engagement Forum organized by the Jigawa State Correspondents Chapel (NUJ) held at the Manpower Development Institute, Dutse.
Mr Ibrahim Garba Hannungiwa has stated that the present administration has completed almost all the inherited ongoing water projects, stressing
“our resolve is to provide water to all the nooks and crannies of the state”.
On the activities of his Ministry, the Commissioner further stated in the last six years in collaboration with the federal government, the World bank assisted projects “we were able to inject a lump sum of N22,432,982,970.8, out of which N1.4b was utilised in constructing and dredging of the 11 kilometre Sintulmawa water to Dutse under Dutse Regional Water Scheme Project, the construction of over 6,648 handpumps in major towns and villages, among others.
Other achievements he enumerated includes, the completion of 300 water scheme, with an additional 100 scheme in this year’s budget with the hope to attain the ceiling of 60- 90 per cent solarization of Jigawa greater water scheme to allow access to water for all.
However, the commissioner lamented on the activities of some unpatriotic individuals who are vandalising and stealing the water equipments provided in some areas in the state.
He urged people in the state to take ownership of all project provided by government in there areas.
"People should be more vigilant to protect all projects provided by government," he cautioned.
