Dawakin Tofa local government has distributed about 1605 bags of assorted food items to less privilege people in the area.

The gesture came at a time when economic hardship bite harder in Nigeria due to the removal of fuel subsidy since inception of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in May 29, 2023.

The Caretaker explained that, the aims of the gesture was to help the most vulnerable people get what they can eat in the holy month.

“It is very sympathetic and source of concern for a man to spend a day fasting but with no meal to eat after breaking the fasting," Dr. Dungurawa decried.

"Since our inauguration by the Kano state governor Abba Kabir Yusif, I felt that at the government level it is our duty to provide intervention for our people and to bring out ways and modalities where those who are privileges can join hand with the government to assist the masses from the effect of the current hardship."

Therefore the Council boss, stated that, when I came in as an interim leader, "I inaugurated a committee to go round and meet the wealthy merchants at Dawanau market and other places within our domain to gather supports in materials and in cash to assist the poor ones in the area.

He then appreciated the donations given to the committee by the wealthy individuals of the area and that of Dawanau market for onward distribution to the needy families across the 11 wards in the local government area.

In his speech at the occasion, the Assistant Caretaker Alhaji Siraja Ahmed Chedi who also serves as the Chairman of the Provisions Committee set up by the council said that, the distribution of the foodstuffs will cut across each of the 11 political wards in the area.

He highlighted that, the committee has gotten the cooperation and support of the people met at Dawanau market through securing donations of foodstuffs including maize, millet, beans, spaghetti and cash which he said the money was used to purchase additional foodstuffs for distribution to less privilege people.

He added that, "Today we are distributing these foodstuffs to a number of 1605 must vulnerable people carefully selected from varied places irrespective of their religion or political affiliation."
