A divorced woman, set herself on fire in Jigawa state in the North West of Nigeria.

This tragic incident happened in Garin Mallam village in Guri Local Government Area of ​​Jigawa State last Thursday evening.

Newskeeper got the information that, the woman named Fatsuma Bagobiri, 40 years old, set herself on fire, which caused her death due to the severe burns she faced.

Confirming the incident to Journalists in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Police Force in Jigawa State, DSP Shi'isu Lawan said that, the Command received a report of the incident at around 7:40 pm yesterday (Thursday),

The Police Force said that, immediately its officers, under the Guri Divisional Police Office, took an emergency response to the scene.

"Our police quickly took the woman to the hospital, and after confirming her death, her body was handed over to her family for burial," said the statement.

Preliminary investigation conducted by the Police showed that, "The deceased was in a state of depression after her divorce a few months ago," Shi'isu lawan clarified.

He also said, "Jigawa State Police Commissioner, A.T Abdullahi commented that this tragic incident shows the importance of addressing mental health problems and seeking support in difficult times."

Newskeeper gathered that, some close relatives have confirmed the hardships of the deceased's life, which they related to the increasing hardships Nigerians are facing due to the high cost of living in the country since the withdrawal of government support in the oil sector, education, power sectors and other basic necessities of life.
