FG Lauds Jigawa's Progress in Irrigation Projects.

The Jigawa State Government has been commended by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation for its preparedness to implement the Sustainable Power and Irrigation in Nigeria (SPIN) project.

A delegation from the ministry, led by Engineer Hauwa Mohammed Sadiq made the commendation when they visited Governor Umar Namadi in Jigawa State Government House, Dutse, the State capital. 

The leader of the delegation thanked the Jigawa State Government for its support and praised the state for meeting the necessary requirements to participate in the SPIN project, placing Jigawa second among all states in terms of preparedness.

"The SPIN project, supported by the World Bank, aims to enhance irrigation and power infrastructure in Nigeria," Engr. Sadiq stated.

Jigawa State has been ranked second among all states in terms of preparedness for the project, which will commence on January 1, 2025.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Hamisu Muhammad Gumel said that, "Governor Namadi reaffirmed the state's commitment to agriculture, which contributes 47% to Jigawa's GDP and employs over 85% of the population."

The project will focus on modernizing irrigation systems, rehabilitating dams, and expanding hydropower capabilities.
