The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a significant step towards strengthening its presence in Jigawa State with the inauguration of its new state leadership, led by former Jigawa State Deputy Governor, Ahmed Mahmud Gumel, as the new state coordinator.
It was observed that the ADC-led coalition has being gaining momentum nationwide, attracting prominent politicians from various parties as the former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido a PDP chieftain are among the notable figures who have recently joined the ADC coalition.
It's worthy to note that in a move that signals a significant shift in the nation's political dynamics, the ADC has been working round the clock to establish a strong presence across all states in the federation as the efforts have finally paid off with the inauguration of its new state leadership.
In his inaugural speech at the occasion held on Monday at the ADC Jigawa State headquarters in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, the new coordinator of the ADC coalition, who is the former Jigawa State Governor, Ahmed Mahmud Gumel stated that "the coalition aims to reshape Nigeria's political landscape and provide an alternative to the APC-led government,"
The newly inaugurated State coordinator of the ADC in Jigawa state, emphasized the party's commitment to building a just and equitable society. "We call on Jigawa state people and all Nigerians to join hands with the party to create a better future for the country," he said.
Ahmed Gumel, highlighted the party's vision for a prosperous Nigeria, emphasizing the need for unity and collective effort to achieve the party's goals and noted that the ADC offers a viable alternative to Nigerians disillusioned with the current government.
According to him, the ADC coalition has been gaining traction nationwide, with several political groups and individuals defecting to the party. "The party's leadership has welcomed these coalition developments, emphasizing its commitment to building a robust and inclusive democratic process," he said
However, the newly appointed Jigawa ADC coordinator, appealed to party members to desist from abusing leaders, whether in government or otherwise. "Such behavior is not in line with our social and political ideology, nor is it the intention of the coalition movement to defeat the tyrannical administration of the APC-led government nationwide," he said.
Gumel who emphasized the need for party members to maintain a level of decorum and respect in their interactions with others also urged Nigerians, especially the youths, to continue praying for and supporting the coalition movement. "We assure you that we are ready to continue doing the needful to bring about positive change in our country," he said.
He expressed confidence that with the support of the people, the ADC coalition would be able to achieve its goals and provide a better future for Nigerians.
Furthermore, Gumel expressed optimism about the coalition's prospects, emphasizing the need for Nigerians to demand better governance and accountability from their leaders.
Earlier, in a public show before the gathering, the members of the executive leading the party in the state, led by Hon. Kabiru Hussaini, had announced a their stepping down for the successful taking over of the new team assigned to run the affairs of the party as agreed by coalition movement.
During the occasion, they (exco) declared their decision to step down as state executives and dissolved all other executives at the 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
Speaking shortly after relinquishing their positions, the former Jigawa State chairman of the ADC, Hon. Kabiru Hussaini said "this bold move was made to pave the way for the successful taking over of the leadership of the party, as well as its structures, by the new members of the coalition led by the new state coordinator, Ahmed Mahmud Gumel.
The outgoing chairman explained further that the development demonstrated their commitment to the party's growth and unity by making way for new leadership, which is expected to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the party's operations in Jigawa State.
"With prominent politicians joining the coalition, the party is poised to challenge the APC's dominance in the 2027 general elections," he said.
Commenting at the occasion, a stalwart of the coalition from PDP, Hon. Bashir Adamu, a former member of the House of Representatives from Kazaure, Roni, Gwiwa, Yankawashi federal constituency, commended the party's leadership for the appointment, saying it was a welcome development.
Adam emphasized the need for collective effort to achieve the party's goals. "We must work together to build a strong presence in Jigawa State and challenge the APC's dominance in the 2027 general elections," he said.
"The ADC coalition represents a new political force in Nigeria,; it's the only one that could potentially challenge the APC's dominance, it's the party that has the ability to attract prominent politicians and build a strong presence nationwide to reshape the country's political landscape," he concluded.
