The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Jigawa State paid a heartfelt tribute to the late President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2025 NYSC/Corps Employers' Workshop held on Thursday at Sir Ahmed Bello Memorial Hall, Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
The workshop, which brought together stakeholders in the NYSC scheme, took a somber turn as participants observed a minute silence during the session of the event in honor of the late president in what appeared as a mark of respect for the leader who in his life time played a significant role in shaping the nation's history.
It could be recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a clinic in London, United Kingdom, at the age of 82, after battling an undisclosed illness and he was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
During the minute silence, participants stood still, reflecting on the late president's contributions to the country. Following the silence, a special prayer was also offered for the repose of his soul.

The participants, NYSC staff, Government officials as well as the Corps members also used the occasion to pay tribute to the chairman of Gumel Local Government Area, Mr. Lawan Ahmad who recently passed away. The special prayer was offered for both leaders, seeking eternal rest for their souls.
The workshop resumed after the tribute, with participants focusing on discussing ways to improve the NYSC scheme in Jigawa State.
Speaking at the event, the Director General of the National Youths Service Corps, Brigadier General O.O NAFIU stated that, the 2025 NYSC/Corps Employers' Workshop in Jigawa State provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss issues affecting the scheme.
The DG represented by Mr. Muhammad Bashir, a Director from the Scheme headquarters in Abuja said "the NYSC/Corps Employers' Workshop is an annual event that brings operators of the NYSC Scheme and corps employers in a strategic meeting that presents the management of the Scheme and corps employers the avenue for exchange of ideas that enhance our operations."
He explained that the task before this workshop, therefore, include to work out measures to strengthen the long-standing partnership between the NYSC Scheme and corps employers to curtail or eliminate the old and the emerging negative trends and improve service delivery.
However, The NYSC DG representative outlined key issues for the workshop to address, including building communication bridges between NYSC and employers, leveraging online platforms for strategic communication, providing quarterly reports on corps members, prioritizing corps members' welfare and security, and exploring resource sharing between NYSC and employers to effectively manage corps member issues.
He emphasized that corps member welfare and security are top priorities, as stipulated in the NYSC enabling law, and highlighted the roles of employers in ensuring these provisions are met.
While interviewed shortly after closing the event by the PUNCH Correspondent, the Jigawa State NYSC coordinator, Mr. Jidda Dawut, explained that this year's workshop was particularly significant, coming at a time when Nigerians were mourning the demise of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Clarifying on a minute silence observed and the special prayers offered for the late president during the session of the event, Mr. Dawut described the gesture as a mark of respect for the leader's contributions to the nation.
He noted that Nigerians have a tradition of respecting and praying for the souls of their departed heroes, and the NYSC was no exception.
The Coordinator, highlighted the late president's love and passion for the NYSC scheme, recalling how he would often invite corps members to his hometown of Daura during Sallah celebrations, where he would honor them (Corpers) with gifts and engaged them in discussions. This, according to Dawut demonstrated the late president's commitment to the welfare and development of corps members.
The NYSC Coordinator therefore emphasized that the late president's support for the scheme would not be forgotten, and that his legacy would continue to inspire the organization. "The NYSC would continue to remember President Buhari for his contributions to the scheme, and that his love for the corps members would always be cherished," he noted.
Accordingly, Mr. Dawut stressed that the workshop solely brings together corps employers, corps members, NYSC staff, and other relevant stakeholders to brainstorm and find solutions to challenges facing the scheme in Jigawa state.
