The Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, has charged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state to be disciplined and culturally aware during their service year.
Governor Namadi made this call while speaking to journalists shortly after he declared the 2025 Batch "B" Stream I Orientation Course officially open, at the NYSC Camp, Fanisau, Dutse, the Jigawa State capital on Friday.
The governor represented by his Deputy, Engr. Aminu Usman Gumel urged the corps members to position themselves as positive and dependable agents of transformation and symbols of national integration and rapid socio-economic development.
The governor encouraged the corps members to build bridges of friendship that transcend religion, ethnicity, and bigotries that often divide people.
He emphasized that as symbols of national unity, they (corpers) are expected to promote and champion peaceful co-existence, which is needed for national integration and economic development.
However, Governor Namadi also advised the corps members to learn the language of their host community, which will not only enhance their interaction and tolerance but also come in handy if they decide to settle in the state after their service year.
He assured them that they will experience an engaging and fulfilling service year in Jigawa State.
Further more, the governor pledged to create an enabling environment for the youths to maximize their potentials in keeping with the ideals of the NYSC Scheme.
He commended the NYSC Management and collaborating agencies for their consistency in shaping the lives and future of young Nigerians.
Earlier while addressing the deployed NYSC members during ceremony, the Jigawa State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Jidda Dawut, welcomed the corps members to Jigawa State and expressed gratitude to God for granting them success in their academic endeavors and journey mercies to the camp.
He prayed that they will experience a hitch-free orientation course and service year ahead.
Mr. Dawut explained that the Orientation Course is designed to adequately equip the corps members with the knowledge and skills required for a successful service year.
He highlighted further that the course is highly regimented, comprising physical trainings, intellectual/motivational lectures, sporting and social activities, and Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training.
Also, the NYSC Coordinator emphasized that the corps members will be co-opted into the administrative operations of the camp to further enhance their leadership and citizenship skills.
On the swearing-in ceremony, the coordinator stated that the event marked the beginning of an exciting journey for the corps members, who are expected to make a positive impact in Jigawa State during their service year.
He therefore urged them to actively participate in all camp activities and assured them that the government and good people of Jigawa State are very hospitable and accommodating.
Moreover, Mr. Dawut commended the corps members for exhibiting positive virtues and high standards of patriotism on arrival at the orientation camp and expressed optimism that "they (Corpers) will excel in all the tasks assigned to them during the orientation course and service year in the state.
The NYSC Coordinator expressed sincere appreciation to the government and good people of Jigawa State for their unwavering support to the scheme and thanked his colleagues in NYSC and collaborating agencies for their important roles in the successes recorded so far.
The PUNCH Online reports that the 2025 Batch "B" Stream I Orientation Course, which commenced on July 30, 2025, to be close on August 19, 2025, saw 1,500 corps members deployed to Jigawa State were administered with oath by the Chief Judge of Jigawa State, represented by Justice Amina Dahiru.
