Jigawa State stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the forum of the former local government chairmen rallied behind Sule Lamido, mandating him to seek a fresh political home as they slammed the national party's fractured leadership for sidelining their icon.
The forum of ex-PDP LG council chairmen convened on November 18, 2025, to tackle the party's woes, from the botched Ibadan convention to the chaotic Wadata Plaza fiasco that exposed deep rifts.
It could be recalled that the PDP has been reeling from national-level crises, including the controversial Ibadan convention deemed illegal by critics, endless factional battles, and the Wadata Plaza meltdown this week, where mistrust boiled over into what analysts named public shame, eroding the party's unity ahead of key elections.
While briefing journalists at Monday's forum meeting held at the Jigawa PDP state secretariat in Dutse, the state capital, Hon. Ali Diginsa, chairman of the group, read out the communique, declaring, "The leadership's mishandling of our leader, HE Sule Lamido, without respect for his dignity, denying him the right to vie for national chairmanship is unacceptable."
Diginsa condemned the PDP's slide into irrelevance, quoting the communique: "The party is no longer a strong national force due to rampant factions, constant bickering, and distrust among members, we can't let this hold us back."
As loyal followers of Lamido, the chairmen empowered him to chart a new course, with Diginsa stating, "In his wisdom, HE Lamido should find a solid platform to chase our vision for a better Jigawa and Nigeria."
They however, hailed Lamido's storied career, from leading the PRP Youth Wing to his 1979 House of Representatives win, SDP chairmanship in old Kano, and national secretary role that clinched the 1992 Abiola victory.
Moreso, the forum's chairman, Hon. Diginsa emphasized Lamido's steadfastness, noting, "He stands as the last G9 and G18 survivor who never ditched PDP, even against Buhari's northern political storm."
Equally, the group demanded urgent action, with Diginsa urging, "Jigawa PDP leaders must guide us to meet HE Lamido and lay out our stance, time is of the essence."
The group loyalty rings clear: "We stick with HE Lamido wherever he leads," Diginsa affirmed, signaling a potential mass exit.
The communique was signed by 17 prominent ex-chairmen, including Hon. Ali Idris Diginsa, Hon. Isa Zakari Bosuwa, Hon. Musa Abdullahi, Hon. Idris Iliyasu Danlawan, Hon. Isa Bello, Hon. Saleh Magaji, Hon. Bala Sule, Hon. Sani Abdulaziz, Hon. Musa Harbo and Hon. Bako Mohammed,
Other prominent ex-chairmen sighed the communique includes, Hon. Bunde Bura, Hon. Mohammed Danjani Auyo, Hon. Adamu Abubakar, Hon. Kabiru Roni, Hon. Namadina Babura, Hon. Mohammed Mujitapha, and Hon. Alasan Babandi.
The Newskeeper Correspondent reports that analysts in the state sees the development as a wake-up call for PDP to heal or risk losing Jigawa's battleground entirely.
