Flood devastation: 5 died, Hospital, Police Division, Others taken over by water in Miga, Jigawa State

The Devastating flood which led to collapse of not yet counted houses in Miga local government area of Jigawa state killed atleast five person and injured several others.

Confirming the death as well as the damage coused as a result of the flood in the area, The Council Chairman Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Agufa revealed that, a baby girl aged four was among the dead ones whose life were lost due to building collapses.

"As you can see, the water has almost surrounded our town and villages, taken over farm lands, Hospital, Police Division, Schools, Local government Secretariat and so forth," he narrated.

He said, “This evening, a building collapsed and trapped a little girl who was sleeping along with her grandmother. As a result, the little girl lost her life and the grandmother sustained a fracture in her leg.”

The Council Boss Muhammadu Agufa expressed that, the flood which just came over night affected many other towns and villages in seven political wards of the area such as Sabon gari, Tsakuwawa, Insharuwa, Sansani and Danduna among others.

Part of what the flood damaged in the area includes farm products and hundred's houses that were destroyed which forced the affected victims to look for shelters from there friends or relatives who are at nearby safer places.

However, Mr Agufa who stated that, All able-men in the area, are now up and doing, erecting embarkments to protect the towns, Calling on governments and we'll meaning individuals to come to their aids.

"We're yet to compiled a comprehensive list of damages coused by the floods, regarding the number of houses, properties destroyed and farm products washed away as a result of this flood," he said.

On its part, The Jigawa state government through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has offered to the victims of the flood in Miga a donation of 2 locally made canoes, 70 bags of Garri, 50 bags of Groundnut cake and 30 bags of Sugar among others.

The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Alhaji Yusuf Sani Babura, who led the State Team to the affected areas stated that, the Agency is currently busy toward assessing the disaster with a view to come up with a comprehensive data on all the affected people across the state.

While expressing their ordeal to Newskeeper Reporter when visited the town, some of the residents through Malam Inusa Bawa narrated that, the flood which they considered as a calamity from Almighty Allah damaged all they have, cripled their activities to zero level and added that, they were supported by SEMA with Garri, Groundnut cake and Sugar for the main time.
