Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has disclosed that his administration would continue to implement full protocols of covid-19 in the State as Schools are preparing to reopen for normal lessons.
Governor Ganduje who was addressing the gathering of North West Zonal Stakeholders during their dialogue on Schools Reopening Readiness held today Monday at Tahir Guest Palace, said the State had disinfected 538 Examination Centres during the WAEC period to serve as protection measure to the Students.
"Earlier on, during the WAEC time, 538 Examination Centres were disinfected and so now with reopening of Schools and issue of NECO, 440 Public and Private Schools are also ready to be disinfected " he revealed.
Ganduje represented by his Deputy Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna announced that, the administration conducted workshop for Principals and Teachers of Secondary Schools to sensitize them on the effect of covid-19 and measures to be taken.
According to the statement issued to journalists in Kano by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor Malam Hassan Musa Fagge stated that, the present administration had already launched its programmes on renovation and restructuring of Schools in which about N880 million Naira were so far released to 44 Local Government Areas for rehabilitation of dilapidated classrooms to ensure compliance with Covid-19 protocol on social distance.
The Governor further stated that in its effort to improve the Almajiri System of education (Tsangaya), Kano State Government had established new Tsangaya Schools in the 3 Senatorial Zones of the State.
While turning to the participants of the dialogue on Schools Reopening, Ganduje emplored them to concentrate on the way forward to tackle the challenge of Students enrollment so as to suit the present situation.
In his address, the Minister of State for Education Chukuemeka Nwajiuba explained that, the Federal Ministry of Education decided to hold the Stakeholders' Meeting at this time to plan and address the eventual safe reopening of Schools and learning facilities nationwide.
"The Federal Ministry of Education developed the Safe School Readiness Template for an integrated approach to safe School reopening which comes with many lessons. The Template requires the full engagement of Stakeholders which is considered a sine qua non for successful implementation," he added.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we all know that great accomplishments are made based on Synergy. It is on this premise that we are all here to deliberate and adopt the template for the safe reopening of Schools and learning facilities " said the Minister.
Earlier, Kano State Commissioner of Education Muhammad Sanusi Sa'id Kiru disclosed that in swift response to Covid-19 pandemic, Kano State Government through the Ministry and it's Parastatals had implemented series of programmes in line with Federal Ministry of Education COVID-19 and NCDC guidelines.
