The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has trained online journalists, bloggers, influencers and other online media practitioners on fighting corruption via the social media platforms.
The 2 day training held via zoom with participants from various Media organisations and bloggers was aim to sensitised and equip them on the role they can play towards ensuring accountability and fighting corruption in the country.
In his address during the webnar conference tittled (Workshop For Bloggers On Accountability And Anti-Corruption Reporting), Executive Director of the Centre for Information Technology and Development, Malam Y Z Ya'u says bloggers and social influencers have vital role to play in checkmating corruption activities in Nigeria.
Representative of MacArthur Foundation Mr Oladayo Olaide in his remark stated that, the training came at the right time of sober reflection in the country.
He emphasised that, now a day, social influencers, bloggers and online journalists have a pivotal task to reduce the menace of corruption through ensuring transparency, holding leaders accountable and people responsible in anti-corruption reporting.
During the 2day workshop organised by CITAD with support from MacArthur Foundation held online on the 27th and 28th of October, 2020, Papers presented at the technical session includes; Corruption: theoretical and Definitional Discuss by Jide Ojo, An Abuja based Independent Researcher/Journalist and Understanding the Many Dimensions of Accountability by Dr. Aminu Hayatu, Dept of Political Science, BUK.
Also presented are papers on Human Rights Abuses as Corruption by Dr. Chris Kwaja, Mautech, Yola, How Do We Know There Is Corruption in A Project? By Dr. Aminu Aliyu, Dept of Economics, BUK.
Others among the papers presented on the technical session of the training are; Paying Attention to Corruption Issues in Reporting Conflicts by Dr. Tunde Aremu, Dept of Mass Communication, Lagos State University and Reporting Corruption from the Perspective on the Ordinary Citizens: Demystifying Figures and Exploring Consequences of Corruption by Dr. Ruqqaya Ali, Faculty of Communication, Bayero University Kano.
