Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been honoured with the prestigious Award of Excellence in Security Governance for his outstanding commitment to peace, public safety and strategic crime prevention in Kano and the North-West.
This was contained in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday by the Director, Special Duties, Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, Sani Yola.
According to the statement, the award was conferred on the Governor by the Institute of Security and Strategic Studies, ISSS, in recognition of his support for security institutions and community-based peacebuilding initiatives.
Yola disclosed that the award was presented at the North-West Conference on Community Security Management and Crime Prevention, organised by the Institute in Kaduna State.
He said the conference drew participants from government, security and intelligence agencies, traditional and religious leaders, academics, researchers and civil society organisations to deliberate on emerging security challenges in the region.
The Director quoted the Institute as saying the honour followed a professional assessment of Governor Yusuf’s leadership in security governance, including his commitment to public safety, institutional coordination and responsiveness to threats.
“The recognition considered the Governor’s support for security institutions, community engagement, crime prevention and promotion of peace and stability,” Yola stated.
He further stated that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, who thanked the Institute for the recognition.
Yola quoted Comrade Waiya as describing the award as a significant honour that will encourage the administration to sustain its efforts in protecting lives and property.
He also quoted the Commissioner as saying that the Yusuf administration has continued to work closely with security agencies, traditional and religious institutions, community leaders and civil society to strengthen Kano’s security architecture.
The Director added that Comrade Waiya stressed that effective security requires community participation and intelligence sharing, and that the recognition should encourage leaders across the North-West to intensify community-based initiatives.
The statement added that the keynote speaker, Dr. Muhammad Ali, emphasised an integrated and community-based approach, advocating strong early-warning and early-response mechanisms, as the conference ended with a call for stronger collaboration among stakeholders towards building more peaceful and resilient communities.
