President Muhammad Buhari has sacked the Director General of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Bashir Lado.
The development came barely a week after sacking the Kano-indigene Sabo Nanono, the federal Minister of Agriculture with his colleagues Minister of power who was also a northerner from Taraba state.
Although no reason was made public behind sacking the former NAPTIP Boss, Lado, President Buhari has immediately approved the appointment of Fatima Waziri-Azi to replaced the Agency's high seat.
In a statement made available to newsmen by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu titled, "Buhari appoints Fatima Waziri-Azi as DG NAPTIP", said her appointment was based on merit and recommendation from the minister for humanitarian affairs.
Accordingly the statement of Malam Garba Shehu highlighted that, not only the recommendation, the Humanitarian Minister also expressed "Urgent need for the ministry to intensify on the existing capacity in NAPTIP in order to achieve its Key Result Areas as identified.”
The President spokesperson added that, the recommendation of Ms Waziri-Azi was based on her “pedigree, vast experience and proven track record to drive the agency forward and consolidate on what has been achieved so far.”
