By Halima Usman, Kaduna

As contention on zoning the Presidency during the forthcoming  Nigeria's general generalon, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) declared that, heaven will not fall if a northerner is elected the next Nigerian President.

This spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba Ahmad made the declaration in Zaria, Kaduna state.

"Anyone who does not want a northerner as President should leave the country if one emerges."

Commenting furiously while delivering a keynote address on the burning contention at the maiden Maitama Sule Leadership lecture series organized by the students wing, Coalition of Northern Group (CNG) held at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria at the weekend, Hakeem Baba declared that, Northerners are not second-class citizens and also the north will not accept to serve as a second fiddle in 2023, when the region has the population to go to clinch the first position.

Mr Hakeem, therefore said the Northern Elders Forum condemned in stronger term, the closure of some markets, telecoms networks in Zamfara and others parts of the North due to insecurity.

He then challenged students from the North, not to accept being treated as second-class citizens in their own country.

“The North is not for sale and northerners will surprise those waiting for them to queue up in 2023 and be given money in exchange for their votes,” said the spokesperson.
