The Federal Road Safety Corps, Jigawa state command has enjoyed other commands across the country on the 2021 Ember Months Campaign.
The Ember Months Campaign adopted every year by the Corps was aims to sensitised Motorists, passengers and the general public on the ways to curb the incessant cases of road traffic crushes and loss of lives associated with the period of the year.
Declaring the campaign open, Jigawa State Governor Muhammad Badaru represented by the Permanent Secretary Special Duties, Alhaji Ado Maigari assured that, his administration would continue to give every support to the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state.
In his address during the campaign flag- off, held at the Investment Motor Park, Dutse, the state capital, Zonal Commanding Officer, RS1HQ Kaduna, ACM Godwin Oomiko called on Motorists and transporters to stop passengers and goods over loading, Night driving, obey road traffic rules and signs.
On the Ember Months Campaign, ACM Oomiko, said that, its a known fact that as a result of increased motorisation during the period, the Nation records high cases of crashes, resulting to loss of lives, properties and in some cases damage government installations and infrastructures.
"Night travel is one of the most dangerous adventures one can undertake, this is because of the inherent dangers associated with travel during the night which includes driver fatigue, vulnerability to attacks, poor vision and absence of First Responders/Rescue in case of vehicle crash," he reiterated.
He then appreciated the continues efforts of Jigawa state government to the command and seek more logistic support to facilitate their statutory operations across the nooks and crannies of the state.
In his speech, the Federal Road Safety Sector Commander, Jigawa state, CC Ahmed Muhammed, stated that, inline with the objectives of Nigeria Road Safety Strategy (NRSS 2019-2023) with the aim of achieving a Nation where Road traffic crash results in zero death, the Corps has been on oars by initiating various programmes to achieve the targeted goals, Citing the Ember Months Campaign as one of such initiative to realise this objective.
"Motorists/Travelers in this Ember Months which is characterised with high traffic density should imbibe safety consciousness, avoid over speed, night driving, over loading, drunk driving and other road traffic risk factors in order to enjoy quality road experience," Jigawa Corps Commander admonished.
The Sector Commander who said that, Road Safety is a shared responsibility, urged other stakeholders and the general public to support the organisation in the sensitisation campaign toward curtailing Jigawa state and the country at large from road accident.
Part of the activities marking this year's Ember Months Campaign by the Jigawa state command of the FRSC which gathered hundreds of participants, themed "Maintain Safety Speed, Avoid Night Travels And Enjoy Quality Road Experience," includes special patrol operations, mobile courts, public enlightenment campaigns in worshiping centres, motor parks among others.
