Jigawa state government has cleared air over the delaying in the payment of scholarship alleged by students of tertiary institutions across the country who are indigene of the state.
Speaking on the alleged complian of some students over the issue, The State Commissioner for Education Dr Lawan Danzomo said that, the delay is to ensure that only certified students who are truely studying are the one benefiting with the stipend money.
The State Commissioner of Education Dr Lawan Yunusa Danzomo made this known while interacting with newsmen during the 2nd edition of "Biweekly Media Engagement Forum" organized by the Jigawa State Correspondents Chapel (NUJ), held in Manpower Development Institute, Dutse, the state capital.
Newskeeper learnt that, the popular complains of some students on the delaying in the payment of their scholarship emanated since inception of the present administration of Governor Muhammad Badaru in 2015.
Dr Danzomo who said that, Jigawa state government has being doing well in paying the scholarship allowances explained that, "it's obvious scholarship doesn't mean that the moment you just get admission into a tertiary institutions that you start getting the allowance."
"The present administration uses a system whereby students are only paid their scholarship allowances after they have finished some semesters and or sessions, the idea is for us be ensure that the students truely remain in the schools," the commissioner confirmed.
"That's why you see that the scholarship for 2018,19,20 have not been paid, because we pay gradually, one after the other," he added.
However, the commissioner said that, the state government has sponsored alot of medicine students abroad whom some of them have successfully completed their studies and they are now doing an internship with various hospital across the state.
Speaking on what the led administration of Governor Muhammad Baradu has done under it's "Education Change Agenda" Since inception, Dr Lawan Danzomo revealed that, Government had introduced an "Effective School System Program" in which some schools ranging from Primary, Junior and Secondry were selected in parts of the state and put anything needed such as laboratory and other equipments for effective teaching and learning process".
"Jigawa state government established "Centre of Excellence" where 27 secondary schools were selected and super equiped with all the needed materials."
According to him, "More than 270 classroom from 2015 to date were constructed,"
Moreso, Dr Danzomo highlighted that, Under the UBE system, the state is consistently providing it's share to ensure that education at basic level is going smoothly".
He said, "In this year's budget, about 33% of the budget was allocated to the education sector".
On the J-Teach program, the commissioner noted that, "48,000 youths whom some of them have completed their degree, NCE and Diploma were employed and posted to schools according to the cluster demand in the state".
Also the education commissioner pointed out that, Jigawa state government is spending about N90 million to pay the allowances of employed J-Teach Youths.
