The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition party People Democratic Party (PDP) have pledged to ensure a victory and peaceful conduct of the upcoming Saturday re-run election in Jigawa state, expressing confidence in their chances of winning.

The re-run election will take place only in the Birninkudu/Buji Federal constituency.

Following a meeting of the Planning and Election Strategic Committee of their respective parties, the Chairman of APC in Jigawa state, Hon Aminu Sani Gumel, stated that their party has made all necessary arrangements to secure a victory in the re-run election.

Honorable Aminu has stated that, APC is confident in its ability to regain the seat it lost due to an administrative error by INEC, which mistakenly awarded victory to the PDP during the 2023 general election.

He emphasized that the court's verdict nullifying the PDP's victory and ordering a re-run election, set to take place on Saturday, February 3rd, will provide the electorate of the constituency with the opportunity to reclaim their mandate.

He further emphasized the need for strict compliance with the election act and vowed to prevent any form of violence.

Additionally, the chairman warned that, individuals from any political party who attempt to disturb the peace will be reported to the authorities for appropriate action.

In its part, the Jigawa state chapter of the chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) restated it's optimistism to win again despite the court's decision that nullify their victory and called for a re-run election in 8 polling units.

The chairman of the part in the state Hon. Aliyu Idris Diginsa in an interaction with the press says that, democracy is determined by the majority, and since PDP has the majority in Birninkudu/Buji Federal constituency and beyond, they are confident in maintaining their victory after the re-run.

However, hon. Diginsa urged members and supporters of the PDP who are registered at the affected polling units to come out and vote to reaffirm PDP's victory and show their confidence in their candidate.

"Our party, being a party of peace, strongly urges our members to uphold the ideals of being law-abiding citizens during and after the election," explained Diginsa.

Also, he affirmed that, PDP will provide the required assistance to the security forces in order to ensure the maintenance of law and order.
