Kano state government has re-affirmed its commitment to improve basic education for better society.
The state governor Abba Kabir Yusuf stated this at the 90 years Anniversary of Gidan Makama Special Primary School in the state.
The governor represented by state commissioner for Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the School old boys Mukhtar Yahaya Shehu said improving the basic education would serve as a boost to the education sector at the time which such an effort is most needed.
Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa emphasized the need for the parents and members of the community to complement the government effort towards the improving of education sector in the state.
"We're congratulating this primary for its 90 years Anniversary, the school was blessed with prominent people in the country. In this regard, state ministry for education has considered the school as an advance level academic outfit with grade A." Duguwa said.
In his keynote address, the chairman Board of Trustees Gidan Makama Special Primary old Pupils Association and also former Kano state governor Senator Malam Ibrahim Shekarau Sardaunan Kano described the event as an avenue for enhancing the spirit of brotherhood among old Pupils of the school.
" I want to call on old Pupils of the school to always visiting the school to enable them take a stuck of what is happening on the ground." Senator Shekarau said
Senator Malam Ibrahim Shekarau who is among the school old Pupils emphasized the need for all class chapters to form a strong executives that will improve teaching and learning In the school.
Speaking earlier, the Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero commended the association for organizing the event.
Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero represented by the Sarkin Dawaki Maituta Alhaji Bello Abubakar also said the Emir was at the school last month for his blessings in commemoration of 70 years remembrance death of late Emir of Kano Alhaji Abdullahi Bayero that led the establishment of the school in 1934.
In his welcome address, the National President Gidan Makama Old Pupils Association GIMOPA Engr. Babangida lamido said the school was among the first generation of primary schools in the state that provide educational background to numerous number of high profile individuals of utmost calibre who impacted and still impacting positively on the social, Religious, political as well as economic life of people not only at the state, national levels but globally.
" Our gathering witness the commissioning of projects execution by the association and that of some prominent people in the association and also soliciting the support for completion of the ongoing projects." Engr. Babangida lamido said
Gidan Makama Special Primary School was established in 1934 during the late Emir of Kano Alhaji Abdullahi Bayero that produced two late Head of states General Murtala Ramat Muhammad and General Sani Abacha as well as 3 state governors both military and civilian Brigadier general Balarabe Haladu, major General Bashir Salihi Magashi the former Defence minister and senator Malam Ibrahim Shekarau Sardaunan Kano and other prominent peoples.
