The Jigawa State Government has launched a landmark education reform programme aimed at transforming the state's education sector.
The programme, tagged Unified New Improvement of Teaching and Education (JigawaUnite), is being implemented in collaboration with the New Globe and will focus on improving the quality of public primary education across the state.
The programme aims to raise teaching standards, improve learning outcomes, and modernize classroom instruction for thousands of pupils.
The Acting Managing Director of JigawaUNITE, Olusanya Omojola, said the programme seeks to transform the education system by providing teachers with training and digital tools to enhance their teaching skills.
Omojola stated that, under the programme, teachers will be equipped with tablets preloaded with structured lessons and performance-tracking software, giving them the support needed to deliver stronger, more consistent instruction.
"Over 1,449 teachers and 250 head teachers will participate in an intensive induction programme to be held across the state," he added.
Additionally, Omojola revealed further that "the programme is based on a global model proven in countries like Rwanda, Kenya, and Liberia. It combines teacher coaching, real-time classroom data, and proven pedagogical methods to deliver measurable improvements in foundational literacy and numeracy."
The Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Lawan Yunusa Danzomo, hailed the programme as life-changing, saying, "As teachers, you are the umbrella of success. You are the models. You are the champions of change," he said,
"Charging the benefiting teachers to take advantage of the opportunity to hone their skills," he stressed.
The Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Bello Ballama, said the Board is fully committed to ensuring that every teacher in the state is trained, equipped, and supported through this initiative. "JigawaUNITE is not a one-time intervention. It is a long-term investment in the future of our children and our education system," he added.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Abdulkadir Yunusa, remarked that the programme is already making a clear impression. "I have seen very rigorous changes. Teachers are telling me they are now receiving clear training that will help them shift their mindset," he said.
Newskeeper reports that the programme's first phase has been completed in Dutse, where a 10-day Wave 1 training for teachers and school leaders was conducted. The next waves of training will take place in Gumel and Hadejia LGAs.
