The Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Namadi, has formally withdrawn his suretyship for Sulaiman Aminu, a suspect standing trial for alleged drug-related offenses before the Federal High Court in Kano.
Recall that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had filed eight-count charges bordering on drug trafficking against Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu in a case, marked Charge No: FHC/KN/CR/93/2025, that's between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the suspected drug kingpin, Danwawu.
The development comes amid reports that Namadi stood as surety for Danwawu, fulfilling strict bail conditions imposed by the court.
The bail conditions included a surety from the Kano State Executive Council and a deposit of ₦5 million into an interest-yielding account.

Announcing the withdrawal of the suretyship on Friday evening in a statement made available to journalists in Kano by the Media Aid to the Commissioner, Abdullatif Auta, Mr. Namadi cited personal reasons and the need to safeguard his integrity and the dignity of his office as a public servant as the basis for his decision to withdraw as surety.
He emphasized that his initial role as surety was informed purely by personal volition, in accordance with legal provisions, and motivated by longstanding family ties and humanitarian considerations.
Namadi was quick to dissociate himself from any perceived support for drug-related activities or endorsement of the alleged offense. "This should not be misconstrued as support for drug-related activities or an endorsement of the alleged offense," he clarified.
However, the commissioner reaffirmed his unalloyed loyalty to the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, members of the State Executive Council, and the good people of Kano State. He also affirmed his readiness to provide any further clarification when required.
Moreover, Namadi reiterated his commitment to supporting all government efforts aimed at eradicating drug abuse and restoring dignity and safety to communities across the state. The NEWSKEEPER reports that the case has generated significant public interest within and outside the state, with many calling for Kano state government to take decisive action on the Commissioner and other known drug traffickers in the state.
It was also gathered that the Kano branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced its intention to closely monitor the trial of Danwawu.
