The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has officially commissioned the Digital Industrial Park (DIP) in Kano, a project aimed at propelling Nigeria's digital economy from the grassroots,
The commissioning ceremony, held at the park's premises, marked a significant milestone in the Federal Government's digital inclusion strategy.
According to a statement made available to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday by the state Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, the facility was initially completed in 2024 but was vandalized during the nationwide protest of August 1, 2024.
"Thanks to the timely intervention of IHS Towers, the structure has now been fully restored and is set to commence operations," the statement noted.
Speaking at the occasion, the
Minister, Tijani noted that Kano State recorded the highest number of applicants for the Federal Government's digital skill acquisition programme, 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT).
"Kano is ripe for digital transformation...The energy, talent, and hunger for opportunity here are unmatched," he said.
The Minister also expressed delight at the project's realization, thanking the Kano State Government for their support. "This project is for the people of Kano and Nigeria at large," he emphasized.
Earlier in his remark, Kano State Governor represented by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam conveyed the State Government's profound appreciation to Minister Tijani for his commitment and dedication to Kano.
"Dr. Bosun Tijani's unwavering love for Kano and his innovative decision to involve private sector players...shows that Nigeria's digital future is in safe hands," Gwarzo said.
The Deputy Governor described the park as "a symbol of opportunity, hope, and the digital awakening of Northern Nigeria," and commended the Minister's foresight in promoting public-private partnerships.
IHS Towers' representative, Mr. Kazeem Oladepo, reaffirmed the company's commitment to supporting Kano State in IT infrastructure and digitalization. "We are ready to deepen our collaboration to ensure inclusive digital growth and innovation," he assured.
Comrade Waiya's statement however said, In recognition of the Minister's contributions to digital development in Kano, the Deputy Governor conferred on him the honorary title of Sarkin Yakin Digitalization, meaning Grand Commander of Digitalization.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by top government officials, traditional leaders, industry stakeholders, and members of the press, underscoring the growing synergy between the Federal Government, state governments, and the private sector.
