In a move aimed at alleviating the suffering of farmers on the soaring prices of fertilizer in Jigawa State, Senator Babangida Husseini has donated 12 trucks of fertilizer to his constituents.
The development comes amidst a time when farmers in the state are decrying the soaring price of fertilizer at the market and selling points in recent times.
The fertilizer distribution program, which was held on Monday at Sule-Tankarkar LGA in the state, is part of the senator's efforts to support agriculture in the zone.
While speaking during the flag off of the distribution of the fertilizer, Senator Babangida Husseini, said the program is designed to provide food security in the zone and is done under the watchful eyes of the Northwest Development Commission.
"Each of the 12 local government areas in the senatorial zone will received one truckload of fertilizer, which will be distributed free to small and large-scale farmers, including APC supporters, farmer groups, and cooperative groups," the senator explained.
He also disclosed that the initiative is designed to support farmers in the zone, towards boosting agricultural productivity and food security.
According to him, the distribution of the fertilizer cuts across all electoral wards, ensuring that the benefits reach farmers at the grassroots level, emphasizing that "the program is a complement to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's agricultural program on food security."
Furthermore, Senator Husseini stated that "we are committed to supporting our farmers, and this program is a demonstration of that commitment. We believe that by providing fertilizer to our farmers, we can help boost agricultural productivity and food security in our zone."
"The fertilizer distribution program is expected to have a positive impact on agricultural production in the zone, contributing to food security and economic growth," Sen. Hussain noted.
The senator has promised to continue supporting agriculture in the zone and to explore other initiatives that will benefit his constituents.
One of the beneficiaries, Malam Muhammadu Sani, a farmer from Gumel LGA, expressed his gratitude to Senator Husseini for the gesture. "We are very grateful to Senator Husseini for this support. The fertilizer will go a long way in helping us to boost our agricultural production amid this current inflation on the price of fertilizer," he said.
Another beneficiary, Abdullahi Muttaka, a farmer from Kazaure LGA, also commended the senator for the initiative, saying that "this is a welcome development, and we appreciate the senator's efforts in supporting agriculture in our zone. The fertilizer will definitely help us to increase our production," he stated.
Also praising the gesture at the event, Aishan Yaya, a female farmer from Ringim LGA, thanked the senator for the support, emphasizing that "we are very happy with this gesture, and we promise to make good use of the fertilizer. This will help us to improve our livelihood and contribute to the development of our zone."
The NEWSKEEPER reports that the event was attended by various stakeholders, including local government officials, farmers, and community leaders whom commended the initiative and canvased the program to be a model for other senatorial zones in the state and the country at large.
