In a historic milestone for women in Nigerian academia, Prof. Amina Salihi Bayero has been appointed as the first female Vice Chancellor of Northwest University in Kano, drawing warm congratulations from the MAAUN Group of Universities for her groundbreaking achievement.

The appointment, announced on Friday, marks a pivotal moment for gender equality in higher education across northern Nigeria, with Prof. Bayero stepping into the role after a competitive selection process.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State gave the green light to the appointment, acting on a strong recommendation from the university's Governing Council, which praised her outstanding qualifications.

This endorsement came after a thorough review of candidates, highlighting Prof. Bayero's deep roots in academia and her potential to lead the institution forward.

The MAAUN Group's heartfelt message of support was detailed in a statement signed by its founder, Prof. Adamu Ibrahim Gwarzo, and shared with journalists in Kano on Friday.

As President of the Association of African Private Universities (AAPU), Prof. Gwarzo celebrated the news as a fitting recognition of Prof. Bayero's stellar career.

He called her selection "well-deserved," pointing to her impressive academic background and vast experience in the field.

Prof. Gwarzo noted her pioneering status as the first woman to earn a PhD in Chemistry from Bayero University Kano, a feat that underscores her expertise in Analytical Chemistry.

"As a distinguished scholar of Analytical Chemistry and the first female PhD holder in Chemistry from Bayero University Kano, I have no doubt that Prof. Salihi Bayero will deliver on her mandate," Prof. Gwarzo stated in the message.

Moreover, Prof. Gwarzo voiced strong belief that "with her track record in teaching and administration, Prof. Bayero is poised to drive meaningful change and growth at the university."

Also, Prof. Gwarzo applauded the Governing Council for spotting her talents and awarding her the position, while also thanking Governor Yusuf for his swift approval.

The MAAUN founder therefore offered prayers for divine guidance, asking Allah to grant Prof. Bayero the wisdom to elevate Northwest University to new successes.
