The Kano State Executive Council has approved ₦6.9 billion for infrastructure, social, and governance projects, aiming to boost citizens' welfare and socio-economic development across the state.
While briefing journalists on the 36th Executive Council meeting resolutions, the State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, disclosed that "The approved funds are aimed at improving citizens' welfare and accelerating socio-economic development."
He explained that the council approved ₦859.2 million for Tudun Wada road compensation, saying "The compensation process will be supervised by the Ministry of Land, in line with government's commitment to fairness and smooth project implementation."
To address flooding, the commissioner revealed that ₦358.4 million was approved for Kano Municipal drainage construction. "This will help mitigate environmental challenges," he noted.
According to the commissioner, the major approvals during the council meeting went to the Ministry of Works, with ₦896.05 million for Kiru-Alhazawa-Bellon Koki Road reconstruction and ₦2.62 billion for 'Yandodo-Mai-Allo Road construction. "Road infrastructure is crucial for development," Waiya stated.
Additionally, the council also approved ₦431.6 million for entrepreneurship graduates. "This supports youth empowerment and skills development," the commissioner said.
However, Comrade Waiya disclosed that another sum of ₦85.56 million was extended for water pipeline project in Gwale for enhancing access to potable water in the area. "This will boost water supply in the metropolis," he added.
He stated further that in education, ₦285.17 million was approved for construction of classrooms across 44 LGAs, emphasising that "This improves learning infrastructure statewide."
"An anti-corruption workshop for state directors gets ₦157.7 million. "This strengthens transparency and accountability," Waiya explained.
Highlighting more on the resolution of the council meeting, the commissioner said that key bills were approved for transmission to the Assembly, including the Kano State Local Governments Administration Bill 2025. "These bills drive governance and development," Waiya hinted.
He, added that Kano State Government received awards for achievements in digital transformation and healthcare, affirming that "We're committed to inclusive development and transparency."
"The approvals reflect Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's focus on development. We're working towards improved service delivery in the state," Waiya stressed.
Also, the commissioner said the Development partners donated a 32-seater coaster bus and skill acquisition training to supports our empowerment initiatives in the state.
"The Executive Council's approvals mark a significant step in Kano's development journey," Waiya noted.
