The National Youth Service Corps in Jigawa State has sworn in 2,005 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members out of 2600 deployed to the state for the one-year national service.
NEWSKEEPER gathered that the formal opening and swearing-in ceremony was held on Friday at the Yakubu Gowon NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Fanisau, Dutse, Jigawa state capital.
Speaking at the event, the Jigawa State Governor, represented by his deputy, Engr. Aminu Gumel, charged the corps members to be patriotic and committed to nation-building.
“Your service year is a call to duty. Embrace the people, culture, and values of Jigawa State and contribute your quota to its development,” Engr. Aminu Gumel said.
He assured the corps members of the state government’s commitment to their welfare and security throughout their service year.
The governor’s representative also urged them (corps members) to take the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme seriously to become self-reliant.
In his address, the Jigawa State NYSC Coordinator, Bala Muhammad, welcomed the corps members and described their deployment as a privilege to serve the nation.
Furthermore, Muhammad said "the orientation course would prepare you physically, mentally, and emotionally for the challenges of the service year."
“The camp is a regimented environment designed to instill discipline, tolerance, and teamwork in you,” Muhammad said.
He, therefore commended the state government for its continued support to the NYSC scheme in Jigawa.
Explaining the drop in numbers while interviewed by our correspondent shortly after the swearing in ceremony, the NYSC Coordinator stated that “Out of the 2,600 prospective corps members deployed to Jigawa State for this 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II service year, only 2,005 are currently available and present in camp as at today, Friday, the swearing-in day.”
He added that the remaining corps members were yet to report to camp, but expressed hope that they would join the orientation exercise in the coming days.
However, the 2,005 out of 2600 corps members, posted from various states across the country, were earlier sworn in by the Jigawa State Chief Judge, represented by Justice Usman Lamin.
Justice Usman Muhammad Lamin administered the Oath of Allegiance and charged the corps members to obey the NYSC laws and bye-laws.
He reminded them to shun all forms of misconduct and serve as good ambassadors of their families and institutions.
Our correspondent reports that the ceremony attended by various dignitaries from across the state including government officials, traditional rulers, featured parades, cultural displays, and briefings by camp officials on camp rules and regulations.
