Kano Patriotic Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) Coalition Forum praised Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya for bridging government-civil society gap for restoring trust between the state government and over 451 civil society groups.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by Mustapha Muhammed Chiroma - Lead Convener, Ibrahim Hassan Gama - Co-Convener, and Peter Hassan Tijjani - Co-Convener, and made available to journalists in Kano on Thursday.
The coalition expressed profound appreciation and solidarity with the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, for his visionary leadership.
KPCF particularly commended the revival and repositioning of the Special Assignments Department within the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs.
The forum stated, “This strategic initiative has created a functional platform for engagement, consultation, and partnership between the Kano State Government and Civil Society Organizations.”
It added that the move has fostered greater citizen participation in governance and public affairs across the state.
KPCF also acknowledged the efforts of the administration of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in promoting inclusive governance.
The coalition noted, “We recognize the critical role of Civil Society Organizations as key stakeholders in the development process.”
It said that through Comrade Waiya’s leadership, the Ministry has initiated constructive engagements with CSOs statewide.
The forum explained that these engagements created opportunities for dialogue, policy feedback, and collective action on issues affecting Kano residents.
KPCF stated, “These engagements have also provided an effective channel for transmitting citizens' concerns and recommendations to the Governor for appropriate consideration and action.”
The coalition recalled that for many years, communication and trust gaps existed between government institutions and civil society actors.
It stressed that the ongoing civic engagement initiatives championed by the Honourable Commissioner have significantly bridged those gaps.
KPCF concluded, “This renewed relationship has enhanced transparency, accountability, and citizen-centred governance in Kano State. We call on all CSOs to seize this opportunity for constructive engagement and partnership.”
