The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kano State Council, is mourning the death of veteran broadcaster and media executive, Alhaji Adamu Ibrahim Getso.
The council described him as an illustrious son of Kano whose voice shaped public understanding for decades and whose loss has left a void in the state’s media space.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Council Secretary, Hauwa Suleiman Zahradeen, and made available to journalists on Tuesday on behalf of Acting Chairman, Comrade Mustapha Gambo.
Gambo extended the union’s heartfelt condolences to Getso’s immediate family, friends, and the entire Getso community in Gwarzo Local Government Area.

The Acting Chairman described the passing as an irreplaceable loss not just to the family, but to the entire journalism profession in Kano and beyond.
However, NUJ prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus. “We pray Allah comforts his loved ones during this trying period and makes his resting place a place of peace,” the statement said.
Reflecting on his career, Gambo said Getso’s contributions to Kano’s media landscape cannot be overemphasized. He noted that the late broadcaster set a benchmark for professionalism and public service that younger journalists continue to reference.
“The late Adamu Getso was a versatile media executive who dedicated his career to the service of the people and the journalism profession,” Gambo stated.
According to him, Getso’s commitment went beyond reading the news to actively shaping informed public opinion.
The statement said Getso's impact remains a reference point in Kano because he had the rare skill of making complex government policies understandable to ordinary citizens.
NUJ Kano recalled Getso’s years as a lead anchor for key political and developmental programmes. He anchored major broadcasts during both the first and second tenures of His Excellency, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s administration.
“Through his exceptional broadcasting skills, he played a crucial role in informing, educating, and engaging the public on government activities and societal issues across Kano State and beyond,” Gambo said.
The statement added that Getso’s legacy is one of integrity, diligence, and dedication to truth. Colleagues, it said, remember him as a mentor who believed journalism should serve the people first.
Moreso, the Council said it stands in solidarity with the media fraternity and the people of Kano in mourning the veteran. “Kano has lost a true professional whose voice and dedication will be sorely missed,” the council concluded.
