The newly elected local government councils chairmen in Jigawa state have been charged to abide by rule of law and leadership ethics in discharging their responsibilities.
Hon. Kabiru Hassan Sugungu, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Local Governments made the call while speaking at the opening sessions of the two day retreat organised for the executives and legislatives from the 27 local government councils in the state.
He said, the retreat was aims at enhancing their capacity on effective leadership, rule of law and general responsibilities of local government councils as third tiers of government in Nigeria.
"The training is expected to informed the councils chairmen and their councillors the role of each segment in steering the affairs of the local government as stipulated by Nigerian constitution," he noted.
"Experts were invited to equip the executives and the legislatives as well with the needed technical knowledge and advice on the way to improve their internally generated revenue, security and economic challenges in their respective areas," Sugungu revealed further.
