Association Of Online Journalists Restates Commitment To Fight Against Fake News

The Association of Online Journalists has called on its members to turn down any fake and unsubstantiated news as the 2023 general elections draws nearer.

The call was made known by the Chairman, Kano Chapter of the Association, Comrade Hisham Habib during the Congress meeting of the Association held at NIPR, Kano Office on Saturday.

Habib, who expressed great concern over the menace of fake news and the danger it causes to human lives, urged members not to allow themselves to be used by selfish individuals to promote the spread or circulation of maligned fake news. 

The Chairman explained that the call was imperative, considering the influence of online media in the society as most people now relied solely on online media to easily get any information.

He also charged members of the association to adhere strictly to professional and ethical conduct in the discharge of their journalistic jobs.

"We want the public, corporate and private institutions to be aware of the types of media they interact with, as this said will help the Association curb quackery and the spread of fake news," the Chairman added.

NEWSKEEPER reports that, As the name implies, The Association of Online Journalists that combined journalists who are into the business of modern journalism from various Online Media Platforms, comprising young and veteran journalists who have worked with the mainstream media across the country.
