| Nigerians on Flood Alert as Cameroon Releases Dam Water |

Cameroon has begun releasing water from Lagdo Dam, prompting Nigeria's Hydrological Service Agency (NIHSA) to issue a public alert.
The water release started at 100m³/s (8,640,000m³/day) on September 17, 2024, and will increase to 1000m³/s within seven days.
NIHSA Director General, Umar Mohammed, assured Nigerians that major flooding is not expected downstream.
Adding that, the dam managers will regulate water releases to avoid exceeding the Benue River's conveyance capacity.
The water release is expected to stop once the flow from the Lagdo reservoir decreases.
NIHSA urged states contiguous to the River Benue system to prepare for potential flood impacts.
He enumerated that, the state that will be affected include Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Kogi, Edo, Delta, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Rivers.
"Residents of these states should remain vigilant, as flood levels may rise," he warned
NIHSA Boss then assured the the Agency will continue monitoring the river flow and provide updates to prevent further flood disasters.
