The Federal High Court in Dutse, Jigawa State capital, has adjourned a case filed by Barrister Dahiru Sheikh Mujaddadi against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and four others, challenging the conduct of recent party congresses in the state.
The case has been adjourned to May 28, 2025.
It could be recalled that the case, filed on May 8, 2025, is being heard by Hon. Justice Hassan Dikko as the plaintiffs then sought for an order from the court restrain the defendants from conducting further local government and state congresses in Jigawa but the court instead granted an order for accelerated hearing of the case due to time constrain.
The defendants in the suit include the PDP, Hon. Umar M. Bature (National Organizing Secretary), Alhaji Ali Diginsa (former state party chairman), H.E. Sheriff Abdullahi (Chairman, Jigawa State Local Government Congress Electoral Committee), and Hon. Bello Isyaku (Chairman, Local Government Congress Electoral Appeal Committee, Jigawa State).
According to Hon. Abba Anas, one of the Jigawa State PDP committee for Justice and Equity while interacting with the journalists on Tuesday at the Three Arms Zone in Dutse, the State capital shortly after the court session, the suit was filed to challenge the legitimacy of the recently held ward, local government, and state congresses conducted by the party.

Anas alleged that the congresses were marred by irregularities, claiming that the local government elections were conducted in private homes, while the state congress was akin to mere appointments rather than democratic elections. "The congresses were not conducted in line with the PDP's guidelines and constitution," Anas said.
He accused the party leadership of sidelining members and running the PDP in Jigawa like a "one-man show."
Anas warned that continued marginalization of party members could spark deeper crises within the party. "The leadership must treat everyone fairly, or there will be problems," he cautioned.
He emphasized that their faction seeks justice and fair hearing from the court, alleging that the party's guidelines and constitution were not followed during the elections and expressed hope that the court would quash the elections in their favor.
Anas's faction is determined to ensure that the PDP in Jigawa is run in a fair and democratic manner as he said that they believe that the court's intervention is necessary to restore justice and equity within the party.
The adjournment of the case to May 28, 2025, has given the parties involved more time to prepare their arguments.
"The outcome of the case is expected to have significant implications for the PDP in Jigawa State," he hinted further.
In the meantime, Hon. Abba Anas stated that the PDP's leadership will need to reflect on its approach to governance and ensure that all members are treated fairly, saying that "the party's success in the state depends on its ability to promote democracy and equity."
Ultimately, he highlighted that"the court's decision will provide clarity on the way forward for the PDP in Jigawa State. The party's members and stakeholders are eagerly awaiting the outcome."
