The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has warned social media users to refrain from posting abusive content against political office holders and candidates, or face severe consequences.
The NEWSKEEPER learnt that the use of social media by some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties in Jigawa State has been on the rise in recent times, with some supporters resorting to online posting to express their views, regardless of the possible consequences.
However, our Correspondent reports that this trend has led to proliferation of abusive contents, personal attacks, and defamatory posts against political office holders, candidates, those showing interest and vying for elective seat coming 2027 general elections in the state.
Against this backdrop, in a statement by the party's sub-regional body in Jigawa state, bearing the signature of APC Chairman, Hadejia Zone, Hon. Ango Abdullahi and the Chairman, Malam madori chapter of the party, Hon. Aliyu Kawu dated August 4, 2025, the party (APC) warned that anyone found guilty of violating this directive will face strict measures.
The statement, made available to journalists on Tuesday by the Information Officer, Malam Madori Local Government Area, Musa Muhammad, emphasized the party's commitment to protecting the dignity of its candidates and office holders.
According to the statement, the Executive Committee of the party has issued a directive to social media users, urging them to be mindful of their online activities. "Every writer on social media and keyboard warriors must refrain from writing abusive content against candidates and other citizens," the statement read.
"Anyone who abuses a candidate will be disciplined by the committee through legal means," it added.
Notable, the statement warned members of the part who are using any of the social media platforms to be mindful of their post online, describing the situation of having serious repercussions.
The statement further reads that the APC Chairman, Hadejia Zone, Hon. Ango Abdullahi, said the party is a champion of justice and morality, and will not condone any act of indecency against candidates. "We will take strict measures against anyone who fails to comply with this directive," he said.
"Let's work together to promote a culture of respect and decency online," the statement read.
Abdullahi emphasized that the party's commitment to protecting the dignity of its candidates and office holders is non-negotiable. "Anyone who engages in abusive behavior online will face the full wrath of the law," he warned.
He stated that the APC's move is aimed at promoting a culture of decency and respect online, adding that "the party believes that social media users have a responsibility to conduct themselves in a manner that is respectful and considerate of others."
Henceforth, the sub regional party's Executive Committee in the state said it has resolved to take a firm stance against online abuse and defamation. "We will identify and discipline anyone who engages in such behavior," the statement noted.
